Data governance is a concept concerning the capability that enables an organization to ensure that high data quality (availability, usability, consistency, data integrity, and data security) exists throughout the complete lifecycle of the data.
To establish good data governance, there are four key dimensions that need to be taken into consideration:
1. Data availability:
Data must be saved and made available to users. This implies giving them secure access and allowing them to modify the information. This authorization management allows the maintenance of the quality of the service.
2. Data usability:
Data governance involves complying with specific standards. This concept highlights efficiency and satisfaction, but also takes ease of use and exploration into consideration.
3. Data integrity:
It involves the prevention of data tampering or destruction by ensuring that it is consistent, reliable, relevant, and valid. It also addresses the quality of the writing on storage mediums during transmissions and similar cases.
4. Data security:
Data Governance involves the setting up of a policy to secure the information of the company and its customers. It must make it possible to ensure the continuity of the three preceding notions. Therefore, it should be implemented at all levels: control access, activity tracing, data breach prevention, vulnerability reduction, anonymization, and more.
